Default battery gauge/alternator problem...?

For the last couple of weeks my check gauge light will turn on and my battery gauge will drop. It was only occasionally, until one day everything dies while i was driving. I took out the alternator and ran a couple of tests on it, everything seemed fine. So i had my battery tested and it was bad. Bought a new battery and within a day my gauge was dropping and check gauge light is back on. It seems that when i start the car the gauge is at around 11 volts, but within a mile it drops all the way dwn (to 9 volts). The last couple of days it was normal, right at 14, but that didnt last, its down again.

Could this be a bad gauge? I would think thats one hell of a coincidence that the jeep also died. Iv e also heard about the voltage regulator, but wouldnt the alternator test catch that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I dont want to have totake outthe alt again if i dont have to. So far since the new battery everything runs normal, just the gauge and light issue. Btw, its a 97 country.

Thanks
