Default battery alternator or both?

96 jeep cherokee replaced battery generator light still on could it also be the alternator?

The best way to check your alt. is to remove it and take it to any parts store and have it bench tested. Any chain parts tore will check it for you for free.

Best way, yes.
easiest quickest, get a voltmeter, start vehicle, check voltage at battery. if its 14V or above, its working.
