Default Ballast Resistor

My 93 Cherokee 4.0I6 is stalling, and having a tough time starting. I ran the wire from terminals of ballast, but it ran a while and stalled again. Should that ceramic thing be getting really hot to the touch? If it still stalls when I run the bypass, does that mean that the resistor is not the problem?

I cannot seem to find a replacement part - can I safely do a permanent bypass?

Thanks for your help...

Yes, you can permanently leave it bypassed. It is there only to reduce noise on the fuel pump circuit. Newer models don't even have a ballast resistor.

If it still stalls when bypassed, then yes, the ballast resistor is NOT your problem.
