Default ball joints

Hey guys I recently was doing a front end check on my jeep because I heard a popping noise when I turned my jeep the other day. Its a 97 2wd! I checked the passenger ball joints and they have a little up and down play in them when I put a pry bar under the tire. Does this mean they are bad and need to be replaced? Or is a little play ok? Please any advice would be great. Its got 4.5 inch lift and 33s don't know if that helps any

They are bad and need to be replaced. They should not have any movement except rotation. Up/down, in/out or left right is bad.

Jack up the tire off the ground then grab the top and bottom then try to move it.

that's for checking the hub bearings.

you were right to use a pry bar under the tire and lift up. any movement means replace them.

that is all.

I should have said try to move it up and down. Although I never knew you can check a hub bearing that way...
