Cool Baffled

HEY! My '98 has a bad front end wobble when I hit 50 mph then it goes away at 60 mph. All lower speeds no shimmy at all. Feels like it's coming from the right front. I've replaced all steering components except the gear box and had it alligned. I just replaced the shocks. I used all good Moog parts! Been doing all my own mechanic work for the last 15 or so years, started it cause I got sick of getting screwed by repair shops. How do you know who to trust? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!

Un-Balanced tires, Alignment, CV Joint, Tie Rod End, Ball Joints, Part of the rack or pinion, Idler arm, bad steering stabilizer, Trac bar(bushings, angles, bolts), Axle mounts, control arm bushings, steering box bolts/spacers, frame(cracks in the frame could make the steering box feel loose), bad u joint, driveshaft unbalanced.

It varies from jeep to jeep. May be a bushing for him, may be a track bar for you.

Before anything get the tires balanced. I have the same problem to a T. Replaced the track bar and other bushings and finally got pissed and put the front tires on the back. My front shimmy went away and now I can feel it on the back.

Track bar was the first thing I replaced. All steering components are brand new! Tried rotating the tires and the wobble is still there in the right front. Replaced most bushings, can't remember if I did the control arms. Will check the axel mounts, control arm bushings, Idler arm, steering box/bolts/spacers, and for frame cracks and let you all know.

Right front? When was the last time you replaced the wheel bearings? Is your hub assembly loose?

This condition is know throughout the jeep world as "Death-wobble".

In case you wanted to look through tons of threads about it.

It was the second reason I used the internet to fix my YJ. Steering damper replacement fixed mine, but everyone usually has some specific thing. You just have to find yours.
