4.0L engines are pretty cheap, and not too bad to swap if it comes to that. Get some buddies and some beers, and a full day to do it.

Next on the list is alternator, but the tensioner is stuck

the bolt unscrews but it just starts going up while the sprocket stays still...

Replacement will most likely be:
http://shop.mean-green.com/1998-91-A...-MG1334-D1.htm

any suggestions?

I loosened the long bolt that is connected to the tensioner runner on the back
Do i have to loosen the tensioner aswell?

NOW... the engine wont even turn over...

First, i checked battery (optima Red top)
Next I checked starter (mean green MG3210-J2)
tic tic tic sound during on key attempts.

I crawled under the Jeep and had someone try to start it and confirmed the sound was coming from it. I could also feel it each time we attempted key on.

She'll probably be going to the shop AGAIN....and probably forking out another thousand dollars

This is beginning to be more than nickel and dime-ing me.... AND i don't even have a lift kit or any modifications done.
Seriously having second thoughts about anything else with this jeep...

New parts I've put on in the past 2 years:
starter
flexplate
CPS
neutral safety switch
radiator
waterpump
thermostat
heater control valve
oil pressure sending unit
fuel filter
air filter
oil filter
plugs
wires
cap rotor
muffler back exhaust
ball joints
4 new tires

optional stuff:
radio
console
dual overhead rear speakers

I love my Jeep; even been in a magazine. But enough is enough. Its not fun anymore because its broke WAY more than its driven. AND NO, its not broke from me having fun... its broke because it was running fine one day and then its down the next. I baby it as much as possible - which is why I don't understand why I am having all these issues.

What do I do from here?

Try the battery connection, mine just did the same thing.

just had to check my buddy did the same thing. the nut on the pulley(labeled C) needs to be loosed a little not a ton. then turn the adjuster bold(labeled A) to adjust the belt. then tighten the jam nut (C) and your done.

Thank you all for the assistance with the pulley...it was alittle tight but it finally loosened up and no tension on the system now. This week I am going to pull the alternator, which I am debating on having rewrapped or put in a new Bosch from Napa.

Any thoughts? feedback welcome.

on your image I noticed your P/S pulley is also notched (as mine is)
I assume that is normal.

thats just a pic i found on the internet, but yes mine is like that. I would get a new one because it will have a new regulator and diode in it, not just new brushes...

I run a 170 Amp alternator from Powermaster. I got it for 275 a couple years back, had to give some love to the mount to get it to fit, a little big :-)

You're lucky, they run upwards of $400+ if you go higher than the 90amps, now

90 amps should be fine, but why out in the minimum lol, here is some good reads for cheaper ways to upgrade without paying for the "upgraded" label...
