so today was a crappy day, went to change my rear driveshaft u joint and found out that the yoke on the rear diff is shot too, the moving of the u-joint shaved down some of the metal in the yoke, so does anybody know where i can get a new yoke?

yeah that was my other thought, ive changed a yoke before on a 71 cutlass and i had to use an impact gun for that, i mean i can get an oem yoke for like 25 bucks, which is 10 bucks more than one from a junkyard, and its new so i dont have to worry about the same problem i had with this one
typical jeep thing though, something simple turns into a whole ordeal haha, gotta love it

wait a second, do you think the u-joint that autozone gave me is the wrong one? i know i need a 1310 u-joint for it, but how can i tell if the one i got is the right one, i now the yoke is a little over 3 3/8 wide from where the u-joint sits in it, my u-joint is about just 3 3/8, i figured that was from it wearing out, do you think i just have the wrong u-joint?
the other reason why i think its hard to believe that the yoke is bad is cause the u-joint wasnt bad for long, maybe a week if that, and i didnt do anywheeling or highway driving so nothing to strenuos for it

it hard to screw up a crush sleve by hand take a 18inch pipe wrenc to hold the yoke and a pc of pipe to slip over the 1/2 inch ratchet with the socket that fits the nut on you yoke and a hammer to junk yard you will be good just dont over tighten the nut when you put it back on there not as tight as every body thinks
The hard part about pulling one off at the jy with hand tools is keeping the wheels from turnning. Every do it yourself jy I have been to puts the vehicles up off of the ground and the force needed to turn that pinion nut is going to spin the axles.

well good news! i went under the jeep to mess around with the driveshaft, well i put it on it moved, so this thought popped into my head "hey maybe these caps are too big?" so i put the old ones on it, which were in good shape still and..... no movement at all!! the new caps were too big and werent holding the u-joint like they were supposed to be, so problem solved, now i just gotta ship back the new yoke and get my 40 bucks back
