Bad Gas Mileage Help
We get 20 around town, and about 22 on the highway. The best I've seen was 23.2 on a recent freeway trip. It's completely stock, very well maintained and we don't drag-race between stoplights. I don't see why anyone here can't get the same. Heavy modifications and leadfoots won't see anywhere near 20 mpg, however, the OEM guys do it all the time.
A modified air intake will not likely help. The stock filter box and OEM filter flows just fine. If you want to do something to improve efficiency, start with a tune-up and reconsider existing mods that are not fuel efficent. Poor driving habits can also cause excessive fuel consumption. Every time some redneck in his jacked-up Chebby roars around me at 100+ mph, I'm glad I'm not shelling out half my paycheck trying to impress strangers.

Sorry to high jack, I bought my 96 xj with 136.000 miles. I changed the oil, plugs, wired cap and rotor, changed the fuel filter, getting 11-12 locally, I just did a 120 mile one way trip from nY to pa, tried to stay between 60-70 mph, still only got 20 mpg's what's the best way to clean the injectors? I'm doing the o2 sensors this week, anything else? Thanks

Man Id love to get 20 on the highway. i assume your jeep is stock correct? Im gonna throw some ngk plugs in andnew ntk 02 sensors next weekend hopefully it bumps it up. but this cold weather isnt helping. If you let your jeep idle to warm up before you head to work that will kill it also. Im pretty sure my jeep burns as much fuel stagnant at idle as it does driving.
