Noticed some cherry leather seats in a grand cherokee while pilfering the junkyard will the bolt up in a XJ???

Short answer is yes.

The fronts are a direct bolt in,after you swap them to the XJ sliders.The rears "bolt" in,takes some fabbing.I've heard you have to completely disassemble the seats & shave & cut & blah,blah,blah...........

Took maybe 60 seconds to find this.

In a post another guy said he drilled 4 holes & bolted in the bottoms.I'm not sure about the backs.

I really want to do this but I can't afford to loose the head room.I'm 6'4".

I reread & picked up on the FNG,but thanks for the clarification.

Side note:I know that '96 front seats bolt to '98 seat frames.

yes they will work if you bolt the seats to your xj seat rails.
I have gray leather zj seats in my 96 xj.

ZJ and WJ seats will work but the rears will require some modification.

What about the early XJs?

I only put them in my 97 but my fuzzy memory thinks they can be made to work in earlier xj's.
