Default bad engine mounts?

Quick question, hope someone can help me out. Every time I come to a complete stop I hear a loud clunk. Like the engine or tranny is dropping. Doesn't do it if I come to a stop really really slow, and doesn't do anything while slowing down, it's when I fully come to a stop that it sounds like it hits something. Any ideas? I'm hoping it's not the torque converter going out.....

there are many mounts or bushings that it could be. the bottom line is, you have to lay down under your jeep and check it out! a motor mount usually make itself known upon giving it hard gas off the line, you can see the motor twist when you give it a little bit of throttle from the throttle body. all I can tell you is to crawl around on the ground for a while and look at the stuff yourself. check your tranny mount too, that is a culprit of making noise as well.

+1 on tranny mount. Exhaust hitting the crossmember too. Do you feel the thunk in the back of your seat? If so it might be a dry slip yoke @ front of the driveshaft.

Does it still happen if you stop with the trans in neutral? How about if you step on the gas, in drive, with your foot on the brake? And when you let off the gas again?

I did crawl under there and everything looked good to me. I don't really know what to look for but for a 14 year old truck it looked good. It's a 2000 only 127k

haven't checked if it does it while in neutral I'll have to try that. Doesn't do it while accelerating normal or hard. Only when I come to a complete stop and suspension "settles"

I feel the thunk throughout the whole truck. Coming from underneath more than the front.

Coming from underneath more than the front if that helps.
Yeah...grease your slip joint splines.

What type of grease should I use? Anything specific?

Is this a hard job to do with basic tools?

Most folks seem to recommend using anti seize lube. Disconnect the front metal band around the rubber bellows. Disconnect the u-joint at the rear of the driveshaft. Lower the driveshaft and pull back on it to remove it and expose the splines.
Just common hand tools.

I got lazy (lucky?) with mine, I poked a small hole in the rubber bellows and sprayed about half- a can of white lithium grease in there, gave the bellows a couple good squeezes to work it around, then went for a drive. Problem never came back.

Seems simple enough, ill give it a go sometime this week. I've also been wanting to replace the u-joints should I do that while I have the drive shaft out? Or is doing u-joints a completely different animal?
