stock is 5-5.5 backspacing on a 7 inch rim. depending on which stock rims you have.
if you want them to stick out a bit, get some 15x8 with 3.75 backspacing.

Teal, we just put Cragar Soft 8s 15x8 (4 INCH BACK SPACING) and Maxxis 33x12.50x15 Bighorns on my son's 87 XJ with the RC 6.5" lift. The tires have perfect spacing on the inside and they just stick out about a 1/2 to 1 inch past the stock flares and it looks mean as HELL!!!

im also wondering this question. i have stock rims on my cherokee now. its a 96 the stock rims are Jeep Wheel ALY1512 Silver Machined. im looking to get new ones. would 4.25 back spacing rub at all? or would they fit fine? im putting them on 235 75 15 mud tires. thanks

15x10 rims with 3.75 BS
33x12.50x15 tires
6.5 lift with the stock flares still on. Rubs the lower front edge of the flare when turning, but that is getting cut off anyway.

235s will fit fine and not rub on a rim with 4.25" backspacing. A OEM Jeep rim has around 5.5" backspacing and a 235 fits them fine without rubbing.

That is correct. The lower the backspacing and also if it's a wider rim. For instance:
1.) A 15x10" rim with 4.25" backspacing will stick out more than a 15x8" rim with 4.25" backspacing.
2.) Also, a 15x8" rim with 4.25 backspacing will stick out more than a 15x8" rim with 5.5" backspacing.
