Default B&M Trick Shift

I gotta do a trans flush on my XJ soon and came across trick shift. It's supposed to make the shifts firmer in an auto trans.
Is this stuff safe to use? Is anyone on here running it? If so, how is it?

Do not do it, use what the owners manual says to use, Dextron/Mercron II.

X2

Jeep knows better what should go in their trans then someone making a "universal" product. Typically.

Quick google search came up with this . This will make your trans shift harder, probably run slightly cooler and make it last longer.

wrong.... you wear out your clutch packs due to the wear. I have seen it done...

agreed.

also think twice about even changing the fluid. If it hasn't been done on a routinely basis you could dammage or blow the tranny.

do a search for more info. i've been a mechanic for 25 years and i've seen it happen.
even when there have been instances when i needed a new screen in the tranny i would save the old fluid that came out and re use it just to be safe.

there is a thread on here that has the entire explanation on it.
fyi.

Shift kits make the trans shift harder by eliminating the slipping of the clutches between shifts. This will/can drastically lengthen the live of a transmission by reducing wear (read slippage) of the clutch packs, granted people can mess it up and cause the clutch packs to be slightly engaged when they shouldn't be.

There is a dextron/mercron II version of trick shift available.

From what I can tell about how my Jeep has been abused by the PO's; the trans fluid probably hasn't been flushed in a long time. I'm just getting worried about needing to flush the trans because my XJ is starting to hesitate on the shift points. I used to be able to shift at 2100 RPM, now it's shifting at around 2500 RPM. Sometimes I have to let off the gas to get it to shift, which worries me.

as stated i'd check the kickdown cable. if that doesn't doit then change the screen just reuse the fluid.

In short. fluid that has never been changed develops a varnish on all the internals of the tranny. when it is flushed out, torq converter and all, that varnish is stripped away and thus the clutch packs etc is metal on metal.

the new fluid hasn't been through any heat cycles to make that varnish,so it just flows past all the components that the old fluid used to bond too.

this is all without getting to lengthy. as i said i wouldn't doit and i'm all about maintenace. its what i do for a living lol.

I have also heard of poeple doing the full flush and not having any problems. this is not an exact fact that it will fail. but why take the chance and have to put a used or worse a new tranny in it.

its fine to do the screen as i said before, just reuse the old fluid. as long as you don't add more than 2 qrts of new fluid you'll be fine. at most you might need 1 qrt.

before you do anything check the fluid when the motor and trans are up to temp. check to see if the fluid is burnt (brown). thats a sighn of future tranny failure. pink fluid is your friend.

Nope, I have yet to do that.
I didn't think that the kickdown cable would need to be adjusted but that would probably fix things. thanks for the advice man

I think the fluid was a light brown (like the color of fresh motor oil) last time I checked the fluid level on the dipstick. Wouldn't the burnt fluid be dark brown?

OOHHH that doesn't sound good. to make sure you should smell it to see if it smells burnt. if it does i would look into getting another tranny or have yours rebuilt. sorry.
