Default Axle swap Questions????

Thinking of putting a D 44 in my '96 XJ to replace the C 8.25. Question is the 44 has 30 spline shafts and my 8.25 and D 30HP front have 27 splines.... can I run the 30 splines in the rear and the 27 splines in the front with no problem?

Same ratio/tire size F&R is more important than axle splines.

Spline counts between front & rear axles have nothing to do with each other. Just gear ratios have to match.

Lucky if you found or can find a D44 for our XJ's.

Axle spline counts have nothing to do with each other. Only relevant inside the axle.

As mentioned you must use the same ratio all around. 4.10:1 front and rear. 4.11:1, as it is sometimes named, is acceptable.

Don't forget you can also just grab a late model 8.25 and it will be 29spl.

Think hard before you spend money on going to 4.10's.

Soon you will want bigger tires and wish you would have done 4.56's, Spend the money once and just go with 4.56's...

That is true, I didn't catch the year earlier.

Why are you changing out a possibly 29-spline C8.25 for a D44 for just 32s on 4.10:1?
