Have any of you replaced your d30 long axle seal. I'm leaking out my axle tube someone told me about a special puller to get at the seal. Wondering if there is a backyard way to do it. Thanx.

So to drop the carrier involves pulling both hubs, bumping the shafts out, and what is their a retaining nut that holds the carrier or does it drop out when the shafts are pulled?

pull shafts completely out. take diff cover off. take bearing caps off making sure to install them the EXACT same way you took them off. pry out the carrier (its gonna be a pain). pry out seals (do both sides while your at it).

On either side of the carrier the bearings are held in with 2 bolts. Remove the 2 bolts on either side of the carrier, make sure you have the shafts far enough out so that they are clear of the carrier and then pull it out. Sometimes it can be tough to get it moving and you may have to pry or yank on it a bit. Be careful though because once it starts to move it will pop out pretty easily.

Thanx guys. Doesn't sound too bad, but now I'm thinking it may be time for a high pinion conversion. I love breaking stuff, it gives me an excuse to upgrade!
