Default Axle Question

Hello,

I'm looking for a front right axle for my 2000 cherokee classic 4wd auto, and am curious if an axle from a 1997 jeep cherokee would work?

i also have access to a 1997 grand cherokee, would that work also?

And how do I go about removing said axle from one in a scrap yard?

thanks

an axle from a 97 will work on your 2000, and it is actually considered an upgrade being that your current axle is low pinion and one from a 97 is a high pinion (more clearance). just make sure the new axle has the same gear ratio as your current axle.

EDIT: just realized you just want an axle shaft. any shaft should work, unless you have ABS. then you would need an ABS shaft.

EDIT: I found one from a wreckers without ABS. so can I just yank my ABS fuse, put up with the dash light, and call it good? or is it the end of the world if i have an abs axle on the left and a non abs axle on the right?

im not sure if deleting the abs is that easy. some say its ok, some say its not. not sure if this applies to you, but i'd take a look: http://www.naxja.org/html/techarticl...ll_OEM_ABS.htm

maybe you could just run the axle, and not have abs on that one wheel since that axle wont have the abs ring
