axle question
I had to pull out and replace an axle last night on a friends xj after snapping it on the trail. We have a parts xj so i figured i would just swap it out. I got everything apart and i took the axle out of the parts jeep and it was way smaller than the one i pulled out. Now his jeep is a 95 and the parts jeep is a 91. Did they change anything with the front axles in these years because i cant seem to figure it out? anything will help thanks

What do you mean by smaller? Tube size? Axel length?
I believe they are all Dana 30's
The only difference I can think of, off hand is if it is a vacuum actuated front axle or if it is a "live" axle (the front driveshaft is always spinning)
I think my 91 was vacuum actuated.

The Dana 30 came with 2 different size u-joints on the axle shafts. The 95 has the bigger u-joints than the 91. I believe the shaft size and spline count is the same and I know they can be swapped.
