Default Axels

I was looking at a few posts trying to find out what kind of axels I have. I ended up coming across a website where I can get my build sheet vis VIN. I did that, but it lists all axel types. If anyone can tell me how to distinguish what I have I would appreciate it. I have a 2001 Sport 4X4. Thank you in advance.

Just google "cherokee differentials" and go to images. The differential housings are unique and you'll be able to tell immediately. Most likely a D30 in front and Chrysler 8.25 in back for 2001. Hope this helps

Thank you very much! It definitely does. I'm new to Jeeps and 4X4 in general, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can about my Jeep.

Yes it is! Mine is bone stock sitting on 235's. I have big plans for it, but first I'm doing maintenance like changing all fluids and what not. I've only had to use 4wd one time so far while at the beach. Living in South Texas doesn't give me very many places to off road. I'm transferring next summer though and hoping to go to the VA, NY, NJ area.

Looks like I've got a Dana 35 in the back. Is this a good axel?

as far as the off roading world is concerned, no. fortunately a 8.25 (another axle found stock in cherokees) is a vast improvement and reliable with little work to handle 33's (although everyone and their mother has an opinion on that). plus its cheap, easy to find, and as far as axle swaps go, easy.

Oh well, I'll keep cruising with it until it brakes and then I'll upgrade.
