Just did this. Rented a press for free. Worst part was discovering a seized bushing on the drivers' side caliper and messing with the hubs. I used Liquid Wrench, a 2' breaker bar with 13mm 12-point socket, and propane torch. Would've been done in an afternoon if I hadn't stopped to clean up rust!

Use a hammer to brake the bearing and axle assembly loose from the knuckle.
Pull axle and bearing off as a unit.
Handy tip I found was actually to leave a hub bolt mostly in, then leave the socket and a small extension on it and turn the steering wheel. Presses the whole mess against the (whatever, in my case anti-sway bar mounts) and pushed the hub out real easy. Originally Posted by partemisio

I agree. I just said take it somewhere cause it's hard to explain how to do over the internet. I didn't even think about youtube though. I never use my balljoint press by the way. I just use a vise and a hammer and have done dozens of u-joints on all different vehicles (I am a mechanic).Originally Posted by mr white
If you're gonna go this far, may as well just replace them yourself. Super easy. Rent a balljoint press at oreilly for free.

This is how I learned to take the axle shafts out
A local machine shop pressed the u joints in for $20 bucks a pop.
