OP, XJ is leaf sprung and ZJ/GC is coil sprung in rear. So, without mod one will not swap to the other.

The D/44 in the GC is aluminum and is a pos. The 93 XJ didn't have a D/44 axle unless it was swapped in. The only rear axle I know of that the XJ and the GC both had was the D/35.

Yea you can make a d35 somewhat beefy too if you throw a bunch of money into it. Dollar for dollar an 8.8 is much better than d44, especially GC's with aluminum housing. I know some d44 fronts use d30 outer hardware like knuckles, bearing and ujoints, so not much of an upgrade there either.

I've been doing this for over 35 years so I know what a D/44 is and what is strong about it and also its weak points.

So what wasn't true about my statement! I was talking about a 1993 XJ, not a 87-89 XJ, and I stated that a 1993 didn't have a D/44 unless it had been swapped in, and that is true. The rest of my statement was also true, the only rear axle that I know of that was offered in a 1993 XJ and a 1997 GC was the D/35.

dude chill out, so I mis-read your post big deal, I love how some people instantly infer some sort of confrontational tone from forum posts.
oh and from 91-96 XJs Chrysler 8.25 - 27 spline, 1.17" diameter shafts, 8.25" ring gear, 3" axle tube
and the 93 ZJ had a D44a available in the V8 model

As for the C/8.25 yes I know what years they were used in the Cherokee, I also know about the aluminum D/44 used in the GC, but as I stated in both my post the D/35 is the only rear diff I know of used in both the 93 Cherokee and the 1997GC.

I'm not the one who needs to chill, you are the one that jumped my post saying it wasn't true. By the way nothing I stated was rude or insulting.
