Axle, not axel. '89 D35 were non-c-clip.

Not all of the 89s are non c-clip. I would check.

Oops! Sorry for the misinformation. I'm right about the spelling of axle, though, LOL

OleBlue, is there a way to tell if it's a c-clip D35 or not without tearing into the axle?

Pull the wheel & drum & there should be 4 bolts holding a plate on.The plate holds the axle in.

So some disassembly is required, they couldn't make it easy by stamping the pumpkin. That's lame.

the 8.25 29 spline is leaps and bounds better than the d35. Sure it has c-clips. Quit raining on his parade.

I run a locked 8.25 29 spline WITH c-clips on 35's with stock shafts. I dont worry about it at all.

i read alot about the 8.25 and how underated it is, and how much beter it is then a d35, also the differance between the 27 spline and 29 spline 8.25,
and tons of people runing lockers and welded difs with no problems,
i paid 100$ for a complete rear with u bolts and brackets, its the same gearing and i just need to swap my brakes
cheaper then any axles il ever find for the d35
go on google and look up d35 blown up and 8.25 blown up i cant even find a thread about one , even if it happens not as bad as a d35
