MMMM. So to turn it around, letting up it will start to engage in say, second around 1/2 way up.... I've got a funky slave on my 84. It's non-opped, I put fluid in it to run it and move it around. After I get it pumped up enough to shift, its still hard to go into any gear, then when I do, it's right on the floor. Up at all and off you go. The point of course, if yours disengaged from 2nd with room to spare, I'd think it should go into first.
Of course you want to make sure it's well bled, but I wonder if Hank wasn't right about the synchros. I wonder how you check that. I have seen posted that the wrong grade oil will harm synchros Btw. Something about pitting the brass, or bronze.
Let's hope it's air!

I'm telling you, do what I suggested. it's in the master or the slave, or both. likeliest thing being the nylon extension on slave push rod.
next likeliest thing...bent clutch pedal.
