I have a 96 xj with the 2.5 mated with the ax5 5 speed tranny and here recently its been hard to get into 5th and reverse and was wondering if anyone had these symptoms before or knew what was going on to cause this. I recently went wheeling and I broke the weld on my driver side lca bracket and ever since its been hard to get into 5 and reverse. I thought maybe it was because my axle wasnt positioned right and was pulling the tranny outta wack but after I welded a new bracket on and connected the lca I still have the problem. Does anyone have a clue what's going on? Help me out guys

Is your transmission crooked? Is this the same with the engine off, transfer case in neutral?

That's possible that the tranny is crooked and is causing the shifter to hit the floorboard cause when it first happened and I would try to get it into 5 or reverse the shifter boot would pop out. How could I check to see if its crooked? And yea it does it when its not running and also when the transfer case is in nuetral.
