Default AW4 = Toyota A340?

Does anyone know what year models of Toyota A340 transmissions can be swapped into an XJ? I've heard that the A340 and AW4 are the same (except for output spline count changes for the XJ, maybe).

I'm sure that there will be come computer issues with a swap.

I can tell you that the Aisin AX5 and AX15 are different between Jeep and Toyota, so the autos probably are too.

I just googled it. ( worked well). The casings are different. It only uses the same valve body set up. Everything else is different.

As I understand they are both based off the same aisin warner transmission, custom built for each manufacturer. So some parts interchange, others do not. GM and Chrysler build auto trans for other companies the same way.

I don't think the transmissions will swap but many internals will.

Just get another AW4!

Thx-Ace
