Default AW4 Power / Comfort MPG difference?

Anybody done any experiments to see if there's a big difference?

Few threads on this already posted on here. General consensus was that it made very little difference to mpg. I usually cruise about in comfort and use power for towing or on back roads.

Power holds a gear longer and downshifts earlier.

Some guys say your get better MPG's in comfort, some say they get better MPG's in power. I say the difference is so trivial, don't worry about it, its a jeep, they don't get good MPG's. Some guys say the comfort mode is harder on the tranny, some say its better. If you ask me it really depends on driving style. I think '96 and later XJ's are hard wired in the "power" mode. I keep mine in comfort and use power when I'm in the hills, towing and dirt. In snow, I leave it in comfort, because I got a theory the smoother shifts help keep the back end from breaking loose during a shift.

Search for it and you'll have a few hours of reading posts

Also correct. And I agree with your entire post about the two modes.

i found in mine (1990) that there wasn't but a 1mpg difference but the power makes my trans shift harder than the comfort setting

Right, because it is holding the gear longer, as Coog pointed out.
