Default Aw4 no reverse

I have a 93 cherokee country automatic just recently had repaired cooler line that had leaked lots of black burnt fluid so I had to top it off with 4 quarts. It would also would slip out of reverse time to time. I took it for test drive after top off it did fine but when I went to park it I lost reverse what should I do?

Consider having a reputable trans rebuild shop take a look at it.

Ultimately I would source a replacement through Car-part.com. certified salvage yards and the parts typically come with a warranty. Those AW4 arent a common failure issue soo with relative consideration find one with the lowest miles and affordable to you price and swap it out.

The fact that reverse gave up after adding new fluid is a clue. Likely the burned up materials in the fluid was giving you enough pressure in reverse to work. Now you're taken out the grit so the clutch will no longer move you. It's probably time for another trans bro. Tricky rebuild.I recommend just buying another one. They'll last a long time if maintained. R

Low fluid, burnt, leaking...probably burned up the clutch packs and bands in the transmission. Unless you can rebuild it, its gonna need a transmission.
