AW4 issues

AW4 issues
I have a 97 xj sport, I've recently put another aw4 in it, it is another 97(lesson learned) but I'm having a weird issue, the transmission can go from reverse to drive no problem, but after you try to go back to reverse it will not move, if you unplug the connector by the dipstick tube, it will be fine from reverse to drive but will not move again after switching unless you unplug it and plug it back in, any suggestions? (Replaced first trans due to a leak)

Sounds like the shifter lock it's self.
Can you actually move the shifter into , Rev, Drive, Neutral, Park freely?
