Default aux fan won't turn off

my aux fan won't turn off...turn off the jeep and it just runs until the battery dies. my first thought it relay, but i can't find it on the internets, chilton or on here.

it doesn't help that "aux" and "fan" can't be searched on.

any ideas? where's the relay?

Would help to know what year and motor you have. The relay i believe is in the power distribution box but souldnt like the sensor or computer switch is bad.

Thats what I did too. Cut the wires and ran a toggle switch that I mounted next to my rear defog switch. Just kick it on if engine is getting to warm. Mine doesnt like traffic at all!!

sorry, 1998 XJ 4.0L...there is a "Cooling Fan" relay in the PDC but i don't think that's the same as the aux fan...right?

i'm sure i could rewire to a toggle but if i can simply replace an $8 relay, why risk it.

Yep, the "cooling fan relay" is what you want to replace.

if the "aux" (a.k.a. cooling fan) fan still comes on and stays on, then you have either a shorted wiring from sensor, or the circuit is wired wrong.

replace relay first, see what happens.

good luck sir!
