Default Automatic Transmission Change the fluid?

I just purchased my Jeep a couple weeks ago. Its in rough condition and im currently working on it. I noticed that my engine oil was black black! So I will be changing that soon but was wondering about my transmission. My Jeep has 200k miles and I was reading that by changing the Tranny fluid sometimes it will fail? What do you guys think? I know for sure im going to change the oil, rear, and front differential. My Jeep will 75% be a Daily Driver and rarely see off road.

My opinion and experience: drop the pan, change the filter and refill. DO NOT FLUSH. Allow the new fluid to mix with the old that's in the cooler, case and lines. Do a few searches on trans fluid changes and flushes on Google, you'll find a ton of information and advise. The above is what I do and have never had an issue. Have fun with the new Jeep!

The tranny filter is nothing more than a metal screen. You can clean it with some carb and choke cleaner or brake parts cleaner and re-install it.

I may just do that. I was reading that when they flushed the tranny and changed the fluid that it failed not to long after. I think the mixture with the little bit of old fluid is a good idea. What AT Trans fluid is the best to use? I know that the transmission shifts fine right now but im sure the fluid is OLD judging by the engine probly hasnt been changed in 5k+ miles as dark as it is. Also things look a little damp around the skid plate. Since im under there doing that should I replace some gaskets? if so which ones should I replace (trying to prevent some long term repairs)?
