Auto Tranny fluid ????
My 91 Cherokee has a major leak.Ived owned this jeep for around 2 thousand miles.I mantained everything that I could and it runs good for over 263 thousand miles. However last Friday I noticed it was acting like a manual with the clutch depressed upon leaving the stop signs.Checked the tranny fluid,Zero,,so I put the 2 quarts i had in case of a problem and tranny worked fine.Yesterday while driving around town I notice this happening again.Fluid Zero again.2 quarts in less than 50 miles has me concerned.,,,,,,,,,Were should I check for leakage on my 91 auto 4 speed,,i checked the pan,no cracks and i will put on ramps today and have a better close up.,,,,,The fluid level was full when I purchased several months ago.,,what is the total fluid volume in quarts for this tranny?

If you take the pan off, it'll take 4 1/2 to 5 to fill it (dexron). Sounds like you are leaking bad, check cooler and lines as these are under pressure. Also at bellhousing for a leak at the front pump.

Found the leak,a tranny cooler hose right at the line connection under the harmonic balancer, any tips on how to replace would be appreciated as i dont know how its connected.Looks like they sell the whole line from the cooler connection all the way back to the tranny.

Another ?.Could i cut the metal line and attach a good quality rubber hose with hose clamps rather than trying to unscrew the tranny connetion and possible damaging things.

Aux coolers are attached with hose so as long as the routing is away from moving parts and away from things that might snag it on a trail, I think a rubber line will be fine. Any other that have an opinion will chime in I'm sure.

You could order a factory replacement..I can link you to the 91-93 Factory parts manual if you want? That way you can reference the part number then head to jeepoemparts.com and look it up..It might be cheap enough to just replace it...Let me know if you want that pdf file..It has come in so handy for me..

Ok looked it up...looks like the tranny cooler return line is $77 and supply line is $57 for factory replacements..Also you might look on jegs or summit and see if they have anything or head to a local salvage yard...Also check the local parts store..I know Advanced Auto sells tranny cooler lines..

Leak is fixed.Did not have any $ till payday so i used a piece of copper tubeing.Sanded and pipe cleaned the inside out and cut the metal line from the tranny and attached a 5/16 fuel hose with a clamp to that, then used the copper sleeve with two clamps to insert in the halve of the hose that wasnt cracked. This is a temporary fix till i can get the correct line and find a buddy with a lift. The cooler tube is still intack, just need the tranny line to it.

By request here's the link where I got it from...The main page is in french but here's the directory listing of all the pdf's.. The 88-90 and 91-93 parts catalog pdf's are at the top..I haven't looked at the rest so don't know what all the rest is..I can vouch that so far the part numbers and diagrams of hte 91-93 has been dead on with the dealerhsip codes and the jeepoemparts.com will also transfer you to the updated part# if the old ones were replaced with newer part#'s..
