Correct. It is to be done at speed, not wheel-spin.

riddle me this BatMan. i tried "shifting on the fly" the other day (maybe 25-28 mph on a gravel road (to allow the tires to spin at different speeds) and all it did was grind and snarle at me. then i did the normal. stop, Tranny N, shiftTcase, Tranny into gear and she popped right in?

i do have the vaccum engage. everything hooked up fine no leaks in the area. any chance the Vac Ball up front is part of this system? i know it does defrost and compressor actions. also 4x4 engagemnet actions?

Your search is over. I just strip out all the old vac harness also as I don't need a 4WD light.
