Just like the title states.. I am in the middle of installing a 2000 intake manifold and what do ya know.. the intake wont sit square to the head because I am hitting the header in the back and in the front..
Anyone ever get these to fit together? If you did, did you grind the intake or pound the header? or both? The intake is not real thick so I don't want to grind too much, but if all I need is like 1/8 inch or so it could work.

I read a write up on this the other day. They just ground an 1/8" from the intake manifold and 1/8" off the exhaust manifold where it hit on the number 6 cylinder.

Here's what I was reading. No pictures but it's well written http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthrea...ader+99+intake . And he actually took 1/16" off each, not 1/8"...my mistake.

thanks, thats what I was looking for. I have already ground my intake a little, but i am not sure how I feel about doing this " flattened exhaust tube about same using a 1 1/2" socket and hammer on exhaust tube in 3 places about 3/8" apart."
Damn, I really did not want to unbolt my exhaust mani, maybe I wil have to.. I am going to try and soften it with some mapp gas first and see if it will bend easier

thank you SO mush for posting that link because it gave me an idea on what to do. My MAPP gas trick worked awesome! heated up the tube at number 6 and hit it with a hammer to flatten it out a bit.. took a few test fits and some vaseline on the manifold to pinpoint the position, but it worked perfectly!

sorry, I didn't take any pics because I was in a hurry to get it done
All I did though was get the manifold as close aas possible, I was able to get it to sit on the dowel pin but couldn't get it to sit flush on the face, so from there I just hit it on the exhaust manifold and that made a mark on both manifolds so that I knoew where to grind and where to flatten. I also coated the exhaust mani with some vaseline to better pinpoint the location. That way some vaseline would end up on the intake mani and I knew where to remove material.
For the flat spot on the exhaust, i held a MAPP gas torch to the area for about 20 seconds until it was starting to get red hot and then I just took a regualr framing hammer and tapped at it and it bent fairly easy, it looks good too, it is just flattened enough to clear, it hardly looks like I did anything to it at all, it doesn't look squished like you may imagine.
