Update: It's been over a month now and so far both vehicles are holding up.

The XJ doesn't smell "sweet" in the cab anymore and my wife's Trailblazer with the damp radiator tank is dry. Both vehicles still have excellent heat and the overflow tanks are full.

Hopefully it will get me through until Spring when the weather is more cooperative to make a permanent repair.
