anyone upgrade the roof rack?

anyone upgrade the roof rack?
I've got an '87 with the chrome rails and the pads under them are almost completely gone, so it looks like they're just floating on top of the Jeep and the cross-bars are locked up and look like crap.
Would I be able to directly swap in any of the newer style ones from a junkyard? Other-wise I'm tempted to just take them off and fill the holes, but I'd like to get a rack up there someday.
