Default anyone mount there tire on top....

with just the factory bars? if so, how did u do it? i cant come up with a good way and i need room in the back for stuff and havnt been able to order a rack yet due to money issues

i just moved the bars close to eachother and then sat my tire ontop of them and then i just bungee corded it down using the holes in the rails for the roof rack pretty soon im gonna get a piece of cable to use to lock it up

if your just going for a little trip i just tied mine down


if you do that make shure you know how to tie a good knot, also dont use ratchet straps cause bouncing around loosins them, i dont trust thoes things

something like that ^^ or an old wheele hub welded to a couple bars lenth wise then bolt them to the crossbars would be nice just get creative

you could see if you could find a Mopar Accessories roof top spare rack, they are pretty rare though, I just picked one up for $100 the other night with a 31" tire mounted to it. Or just fab up your own, home built stuff is better.

instead of an old hub how about the old montiing bracket from the cargo area?

personally i like mine in the cargo area.. two bungees holding it down- plan on fabbing up a cover the spring to cover the spare/towstrap.

I prefer the rear bumper mounts myself since a large tire wont fit in the cargo area putting it on the roof is a pain in the butt it raises your center of gravity and is a bear to put it up there and take it down.

i love the bumper that hold ur tire but there all expensive like 600 anyone no a cheap place to get them?

I havent't seen a cheap place to buy one and I have looked I built a rear bumper w/o a tire swing awhile back and I am just going to add to it now that steel prices have gone down a little.

Just dont put the tire on the roof and use rachet straps it bent my roof in but now i custom fabed a roof rack and that works great

put it on the cross bars, move them close enough together so the tire sits on them. Use ratchet straps to strap it down, i had mine like that for a long time, then eventially got a surco rack.
