What about something like this http://www.quadratec.com/products/12008_910X_PG.htm on the roof, Opinions??...Tj
you could see if you could find a Mopar Accessories roof top spare rack, they are pretty rare though, I just picked one up for $100 the other night with a 31" tire mounted to it. Or just fab up your own, home built stuff is better.

I prefer the rear bumper mounts myself since a large tire wont fit in the cargo area putting it on the roof is a pain in the butt it raises your center of gravity and is a bear to put it up there and take it down.

Might check this out for the OP. It is not free or real cheap, but...

I havent't seen a cheap place to buy one and I have looked I built a rear bumper w/o a tire swing awhile back and I am just going to add to it now that steel prices have gone down a little.
put it on the cross bars, move them close enough together so the tire sits on them. Use ratchet straps to strap it down, i had mine like that for a long time, then eventially got a surco rack.
