Anyone know of a well known jeep mechanic near Brighton?
Does anyone know of a well known Jeep mechanic near Brighton? I need someone who knows what they are doing to take a very thorough look thru my motor to tell me if it is knocking, or if the flex plate is bad or if I have to replace the motor. I have to drive this thing to Traverse City in February and I need it to make it there and back. Thanks in advance.

I've been looking for a vintage Jeep mechanic/shop in our area as well. Can't find one.
Lots of shops are eager to work on my XJ, but it turns out they have no experience at all.
Forget the dealerships. Their experienced mechanics have been dispersed to other shops or retired when they shut down all the Chrysler dealerships, and the remaining mechanics don't know if their ***** are drilled or punched.
Rent a 4X4 vehicle for your trip.

buddy lives out near there and says that he trusts metro 25 in troy. I know that it's a hike but he won't let someone touch his vehicles unless they know what they are doing.

Troy is quite a hike for me. This is my daily driver so i would need someone closer. If there is anyone near the Brighton area that would like to stop by or i could go to them it would be much appreciated. Someone with more experience than me in the motor department could probably tell me if i need a new motor or not. Or if it might be something else making the noise.

Noises like that are tough, even for an experienced mechanic. I had several very good, experienced mechanics listen to mine, and only one correctly diagnosed it as a broken piston skirt.

a piston skirt is part of the piston, this would require replacing the piston. If you are in that deep it only makes sense to rebuild the motor. I'm sure there are guys out there that can do it quickly (a day or so) but I would be worried about what the chunk of skirt did before it fell into the pan. And this is probably worst case scenario anyway.
