Has anyone considered using a stock pre-97 temperature gauge for use as a transmission and possibly oil temperature gauge? I imagine the sending unit would be fine in oil/transmission fluid. I failed to look while my cluster was out, but I imagine once the mounting screws are removed, the gauge can be removed by unplugging or cutting wires and used as a stand alone?

I can design a bezel to hold it and get clear plexiglass to cover it. It would just need 12v power, correct?

I ask this because I have gauge faces and really want all of my gauges to match. I can have new faces made that would say 'Trans' or 'Oil' Temp.

Gauge does unscrew but its powered thru circuit board no wires ?

Worst case, do any aftermarket (preferably less than $40-50) have removable glass so a gauge face can placed on the existing print?
