i have 2 problems dont think they are connected but not sure. First i have to move my shifter to start my 93 auto xj sometimes pull it down towards drive other times slam it up into park. The second problem is when im driven and get up to 40-45 it starts running real bad not sure my friend says it sounds like its loading up any help or suggestions would be great thanks

sounds like the gear selector is not aligned properly. Try running the shifter through all the gears, several times to help align it.

 

What do you mean runs bad? As in handling? poor engine performance? check engine light on?

 

it loses power like its struggling

The NSS is the Neutral Safety Switch. It is mounted on the automatic transmission and assures that the motor can only be started in Park or Neutral. It also controls the backup lights.

When the NSS is defective or improperly adjusted, the motor will not crank. Moving the shifter back and forth between Park and Neutral will often cause it to make contact and allow starting as you have experienced.

A search will turn up threads explaining how to clean and adjust the switch or it can just be replaced.

As stated, more history and detail for the loss of power.

 

Start with a thorough cleaning, run some injector cleaner through it. Lucas, additive to fuel is great stuff, I carry a bottle with me at all times. Converter may be clogged, injector issue, intake clogged, throttle boddy sticking from carbon buildup. Start with that cleaner, and take out air filter and clean inside of throttle body with toothbrish and carb cleaner.

 

Its starts jerking done alot of looking around alot of o2 sensors cps and fuel filters were the probably anyway to test and see which one
