Default Any idea where this leak is coming from?

have a 97 XJ and recently when it rains i end up with a wet spot in the rear cargo area at the bottom of the spare tire cover. the rain comes from the roof or hatch somewhere cause you can see the water dripping down the spare cover. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys......

nope, headliner is dry. it leaks down through the trim piece (well where the two trim pieces meet, you can see in the picture) that runs the length of the top of rear hatch opening. only leaks on the side with the spare tire

Mine leaks like that when the hatch channel on top gets full of dirt and leaves that keeps the rain water from running down the channel as designed. Instead it overflows the trim rubber and drips on the inside.

took that trim piece off and i'm wondering if its coming in through the hole where the wiring harness comes through. all that comes through the hole is the harness, should there be a plug there of some kind?

It's a 90 degree rubber boot that the harness passes through. My understanding is that they came already on the harness so finding a replacement other than a salvage yard might be a problem.

There should be an accordian style rubber boot. One grommet end fits in the hatch hole and one in the hole where the wires enter the roof.
