Default Any idea where this black wire is supposed to go?

Recently bought a 98 Cherokee Sport 2 Door. The guy who owned it was some stupid kid who installed a stereo and some subwoofers and did a completely crappy wiring job.

In order to clean things up I took the aftermarket head unit he installed out. The wiring job was horrible. Instead of soldering things and using heat shrink tube he literally just hand twisted the wires together and didn't bother to use electrical tape or ANYTHING to cover the exposed wire... Idiot!

So, I got all of it fixed but now there is this random black stray wire and I don't know where it goes. There is an extra space in the grey connector in the picture as you can see so I was thinking it likely goes there, but I am not 100% sure. I wanted to ask before I just go putting it somewhere it doesn't belong.

Thanks!

Could be pulled out of the plug? Maybe ground wire... If so grounding it can be easy

That should be ground. Grab a multi meter and set it to continuity and touch one probe to a known ground and the other wire.

That is the radio chassis ground, it used to have a female spade connector or a ring terminal on it.
