i know alot questions just this guy who had it before had it relly messed up wireing wise but any idea

 

mine also has that connection going to nothing, not quite sure what it does though

IF that's coming off of your Throttle Position Sensor, and IF you have a RENIX-era rig (1987-1990,) that would be the connector that would report to the Transmission Control Unit for the AW4.

Since it's disconnected, and you're just wondering what it is (instead of posting any driveability problems,) I'd be inclined to think someone happened to replace the regular TPS on the manual transmission-equipped XJ with an auto one, which is perfectly doable.

If both of the conditions in the first sentence aren't met, I'll need clearer pictures to tell you for certain. Those look like cellphone pix, and 'phone pix are notoriously crappy (with the cost of a decent digital camera having come down so much, there's no reason to not have one anymore. Cellphone cameras are an afterthought, which is why they suck so badly.)

 

Those are amazing pics for a cell though. Most people cant make heads or tails of the pictures my phone takes. They just kind of look like a pixelated blob.
