Any help would be great
Ive got a 1989 cherokee with a 4.0 in it, the timing chain let go in it. I tried turning it over and just the crank turned, so i have the timing out of whack. I got in fo on shop key on where the timing marks should be. My problem now is with the valve cover off, with the cam and the crank lined up the number one valves are not closed. I know from other motors ive had apart that number one valves should be closed at tdc, is this motor a little different and if so where should the valves be at tdc. thanks in advance to anyone that has ever delt with this before.

re..timing marks
Yes I have that drawing also. Its just when I line up the cam and crank..th valves are not closed. Maybe that's how this motor lines up I don't know.not too sure with computer timing like this

Valves on 1 should be closed on tdc. Maybe a bent pushrod...
Mine had a spun bearing but still ran, but I had to replace a few pushrods when I redid the motor cuz they were bent.

To be sure, check compression. If you have low compression on any of the cylinders (under 160) that's a good sign of trouble, whether it be bent pushrods, broken / bent valve, crank / cam timing out of whack, etc.
