Default Antenna Ground?

I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee that is having a stereo problem. We were attempting to install an aftermarket 4 channel amp for the speakers, but decided not to because we were not happy with the sound quality. After we reconnected the wiring harness to the pigtail, like we had it before, we were not able to power the radio back on. I am thinking that we have a ground problem, because I used a test light to check the power going to the radio, which was good. The ground wire is hooked up to a screw that attaches the dash to the frame of the car, so it's not a good ground. The radio has been hooked up this way for 6 months. Maybe our ground is not good? Maybe grounding on the antenna and that ground went bad?

Couple of questions for you. Have you checked all the radio fuses? Are you using the factory head unit or an aftermarket one?

Sorry, should have been more specific. We are using a pioneer aftermarket head unit. I have checked all of the fuses, and they were all good. After the first time the radio would not power on we pulled everything out and checked every connection to make sure they were good.

If you haven't already, try a different ground point. There should have been a single black wire with a connector on it attached to a tab on the back of the factory radio. That's the ground for the radio, try connecting your pioneer's ground to that.

Alright, I'll give that a shot. I have already tried a different ground point though. I attached a wire with gator clips to the Pioneer ground and grounded it to the door frame, which I know is a good ground. That gave me nothing...

Is the acc line getting power when you turn the key? Did you check the power at the hu itself? Check.the fuses with a multimeter? Sometimes they can lose connection and you can't see it with your bare eye.

Pull it out and see if it turns on with a battery on the workbench?

What we ended up doing is plugging in the factory radio, which ended up working. Apparently our pioneer HU blew. We are sending it into pioneer to be repaired.
