Another overhead console question..
I’ve got a chance to get an overhead console for my XJ ….Unfortunately it doesn’t have the wiring harness with it…and we've got squat for JYs around here.. Can I just make my own harness for it?…I figure mating to the plugs is gonna be a pain...but should be doable?....Anyone know how many wires we’re talking about?….

do you mean the harness on the vehicle end of things, if so you may have it as jeep usually designed one harness for all models regardless of what you got for options, i always debated doing the overhead but didnt want to deal with wiring it......untill i pulled my headliner and theres the plug for it taped to the sheet metal

Yes...I think so..I've seen consoles on ebay that have some sort of harness that I assume goes from the console and plugs in under the dash...The console I'm thinking of getting doesn't include that..I haven't seen it in person yet...so I don't know if the console just has sockets that accepts the plugs from the harness?
I'll check the possibility that there might be a harness already there...Will I be able to tell by removing the pillar trim?...I'd rather not disturb the headliner until I'm positive I can do this...Thanks..

not sure if you can tell by pulling the pillar trim as you have your interior lights up there as well but if i recall the overheads i looked at w/ compass and maplights didnt really have a harness just a female plug in
not sure what year your XJ is but ill snap a pic of the plug in my 89 as i still dont have a headliner in there.....yet, and that should give ya a better idea of whats goin on up there
BTW if you get on of the consoles with the outside temperature you will also need the sending unit that goes behind the front bumper as jeep didnt wire that in unless you had that option

They used the same wiring harness in all jeeps. So above your headliner there should be a male or female end hiding. As for a fuse goes idk. My .02 let me know if I am wrong
