Default cant get the nss off

I followed the directions but couldnt pry the nss off, it seemed as if it would break if i tried any harder or worse strip the threading. Is there a tool I can buy to pull it off? thanks

you can wire a push button to the starter to bypass is, doesnt fix not having reverse lights but you will always be able to start your jeep

Edit: it can be hard to get off, dont give up tho, keep trying to pry it off, it will finally come off, spray some silicone lube spray on it and let it soak in.

Bypassing it will leave you without reverse lights, without the NSS safety feature, and actually can affect transmission performance, especially overdrive.

I'd try to resolve this. I agree I would spray it down thoroughly with something like PB Blaster and let it sit for a few hours to work.

You can bypass it at the relay on the right inner fender. My ex wife has a 96 Country that has a nss that will act up very intermittantly. I hooked up a bypass wire with a spade terminal so she could plug it in & get the Jeep started. When you bypass it this way it will turn on the check engine light & your reverse lights won't work, but it will get the Jeep started to get you home. I don't have the manual here otherwise I could tell you which relay & terminals to jump.

Get back under there and keep pulling on it!!! You can do it!! There is no danger of stripping the threads by the way...... If you do break it, I have provided a link in previous threads for a reasonably priced replacement with a 1 year warranty.

ok Phatwitaph and Lurk520, I like your enthusiasm but i stripped the top of the threading anyhow, nut popped right off as soon as I gave it more pressure. good news is it still screws back on, this baby is stubborn, anyway I sprayed the hell out of it and am going back in will let you know what gives first me or the NSS. to be continued..... bypass is working for now but of course as luck would have it the inspection was due March 1st go figure.....
