Default Another New Problem

I got in my Jeep this afternoon only to find that the Blower only works on 4 or high so something new to replace what ever it is. What do you think?

Default blower fan...

Might want to check your blower fan relay. It's underhood in the fuse box that on the passenger side of the vehicle. That sounds like what it is. I got mine at autozone for around $5.

blower resistor, should be right by the motor. Controls fan speed settings.

BUT why did the blower resistor fail? The resistor includes a thermal "fuse", that opens if it overheats. The only reason for it to overheat is if there is no airflow around the resistor -> check the old resistor: if the resistor is burnt/corroded/obviously failed, it may have just gotten too old. If the resistor looks OK visually (no broken wire coils), check the thermal fuse - with an ohm meter, it should read like 0 ohms (less than 1). If the thermal fuse is open, check your blower motor also: if the bearings are stiff, or if the blower was noisy, the fan may have been not turning when on LO, so no airflow, so the resistor overheats and "blows" the thermal fuse. If you just replace the resistor without checking the blower motor bearings, the new one could fail in a short time too.

OR

If everything checks OK at the resistor, check the wiring at the heater controls switch, mine also had a burnt connection at the switch.

thanks for catching that.... couldn't think of the name of the part... as for the other person who mentioned the fan switch... your right but from what i have seen it is normally just the blower resister underhood. Should check it just to be sure though.

I had the same problem on mine, the blower motor resistor was corroded and broken. It was a very easy fix, and it was in stock at autozone. The resistor pack is right on the front of the blower box under the passenger side dashboard. Two screws and a connector, pop out the old one, and in with the new, and you'll be good to go.
The only reason I can think of for them to corrode and fail is because of the moisture/condensation from the air conditioner coming in contact with the very hot metal "spring" that is the resistor.

I'm having this problem. I'm seeing $42 or $66 for this part at autozone for my '97. I like $5 better. Am I looking at the wrong thing?
