ok. so I honestly have read almost all mpg threads. seriously I have. But what makes city driving so much worse than highway? I know that it is, but I still don't understand why.

Last trip to Tahoe I got 22mpg all stock with 275's. New exhaust header all the way through. Full tune-up. All new fluids. New cooling system (runs a bit cool actually).

City= 12 mpg!

Inertia.

Changes in acceleration waste gas. Once you get to cruising speed it is much more efficient than accelerating and decelerating. Doing that, you're just converting the engine energy into brake heat.
