No it has a distrubutorless ignition whereas you have a distributor for one thing. Wiring is different. I think you should just toss on a new headgasket, especially if you already have a cherry picker. Bolt it to the head and use that to pull it off. Then you don't have to even pull the intake and exhaust manifolds. This is what we dis on my buddy's 97 tj and had it running in about 12 hours of work.

There are enough engineering differences that you can't use an '01 engine without other major changes needing done. Swaps for your vehicle are '96-'98. If you are intent on a swap, go to www.car-part.com and search for a lower mileage engine there. That's where I found the one I swapped into my '97.
If all you need is a HG, do that. It will be less work overall and less cost if you do it yourself.

an 01 engine will work in a 1991-2001. the head will have holes for a coil pack, but just don't use them.
The hole for the distributor is the same as one for the cam sensor in the 99-2001
I have a 1991 4.0 in a 2000. I ran the 91 head for a while, but it ran into some issues (too much abuse over the years)
I would find a different year. 96-98 would be idel because you get the stronger block (96+) and you get a motor without the 0331 head (99-01) that is prone to cracking.
But why swap an engine completely for a head gasket? if the short block is fine, you're wasting time and money.
