That is what I am hoping. I will be getting a stage 1 cam kit from 505performace. It come with everything related to the cam including the chain and head gasket.

Certainly can. I've heard a bad one rattle loud for 1/2 a sec till the oil pressures up, then go on just "thumpn like a disco". I have both a stethoscope and a wooden dowel for trying to listen to things like that. Thankfully haven't need to use them in a long time.

small update...
When on the way to the store to get beef jerkey (anti-smoking aid) I noticed that the knock did not start until the Jeep was COMPLETELY warmed up. It runs at 209 degrees and is usually rock solid at that temp. It does not knock until it reaches that temp. I know it is probably because the oil thins as it warms but isn't that a little wierd? And a little more evidence that it is probably a lifter?
I might be just rationalizing.

I am running 15/40. The jeep runs perfect when it is cold. The valve train noise is very even. When it warms up, the knock start and the valve train sounds uneven and louder.

Probably a long shot but I just went through this with the exact symptoms and it was a bad motor mount causing the exhaust to rattle on the trans cross member. Never would have thought. Again, no knock when cold and when it warmed up under load it was knocking. Thought I'd mention it because it's easy to rule out.
Can you feel any vibration from the knock in the floor board?

Also, I did check the torque converter bolts. That was the first thing I did since it seems to be the most common reason for knocks on these things.

Not yet. Really bad weather and work has prevented me from working on it. As I dig into it though I will post my findings since it does seem like there are a bunch of knock threads out there.
