Default Another electric fan question

I just bought a sweet '94 Cherokee Sport the other day. On the way out the door the previous owner mentioned the only problem he ever had with the car was the electric cooling fan started running continuously, so he unplugged it. He said the car never overheated. I checked it out, and the fan was plugged in and would run with the A/C on so I forgot about it. The other day I was pulling a trailer with the Jeep in warm weather and the temp started to climb too high. I put the A/C on and the temp came down.

I'm assuming the previous owner may have unplugged the fan switch relay, but I couldn't find it or it was plugged in. There's 2 modules bolted next to the air box next to the radiator and they were both plugged in-is one of these the fan switch relay, or is it somewhere else? I'm guessing when I find out what the previous owner unplugged I'll have to figure out why the fan wouldn't shut off. I'm thinking there's a bad temp sensor? If that sounds reasonable, is the sensor for the fan located on the water pump housing, or is that sensor for the gauge?

I know the subject's been discussed a lot, but I couldn't find a clear answer to my problem. Thanks in advance for any help.
