Hey guys,
I'm in the middle of figuring out what to do with my Cherokee, repair, or send to the junkyard because there's too much to fix and it will cost me more than finding another XJ...
I'm asking myself this now because I finally got my lift kit and on my way to installing it at a garage, the alternator seized up (adding an item to a list of fixes)...
But the biggest thing is the bent unibody...

more pictures here http://s223.photobucket.com/albums/d...rokee%20Frame/
happened during this:

So basically, knowing that I have no welding experience, and my budget is tight... What would you guys do if you were me?

You got out of your XJ, leaving it in neutral (while running). And put your trust in the e break on a hill? Am I getting that correctly. You might want to add that to the rest of the "FAIL" video collection on you tube. I would start looking for another '90's XJ. In the mean time, you can Finnish killing that one. And save it for parts. If there is anything worth while left on it.

i had mine up on jack stands a few mounths ago, only 2 or 3 were touchin the truck at all times and if i pushed to hard on something it would go to the opposite corner... it drives straight without problems....
i am thinking of upgrading wth some unibody stiffeners (there are plenty of bolt and weld on kits in aftermarket) but b4 that i want to take it to an autobody shop.. most well equipped shops have tools for frame repair and can staighten and refab a truck back to stock condition.
i suggest finding a shop that does this and get an estimate b4 writing it of, i think this is a great thing for any unitbody as when buying used they usualy already have slight bend in them from a life of regular road use.
after doin this as well you should notice a change in handeling for the beter, in th long run for keeping your unibody in check i recomend a steering brace and any kind of body armour added be connected integraly with the unibody..(any1 correct me or add to any of this)
diesel chero's are sick id hate to see it go to a junckyard, hope all goes well.

Well, a part from an alt, tranny leak and cooling issue, there's nothing else wrong with it. I believe... And getting another XJ is going to cost me more than fixing this one (apart from the frame).

Unfortunately, I already visited a shop and they said it was "unrepairable"... I could visit others but I think they'd charge me a price that would be greater than buying another sane-bodied XJ!!
It's our French culture, people aren't attached to their cars here :-( Except me!! haha
Luckily, diesels are much more popular so finding another is no difficulty at all!
Why scrap it? Jeeze people give up way too easily. Bring it to a good frame shop and have them take a look (I would think they have frame shops in France) . A little tug here, a pull there, and she will be straight and narrow once again. When I did repairables (fix insurance salvage totalled vehicles) I fixed ALOT worse with full confidence in the vehicle so much so my girlfriend drives one I did. Bring it to private frame shops and they will not do the unrepairable bit on you (translated I the mechanic don't think you have any money and even if you did I don't feel like doing the job). Must be a low unemployment rate over there to turn work away lol.

Anyways, that look pretty repairable. Is it just the one side? I would get another "estimate" from a better frame/body shop. The only thing I really see it effecting is the leaf spring mount.

Oh man. Just watched the video. I'm sorry to laugh at your misfortune but that was funny. Your Jeep said "oh, you just gonna walk away, huh?"
Also that diesel sounds awesome. Would love to hear that in my XJ
